The National Elections Commission (NEC) will on Friday, June 10, 2016 commence the burning of ballot papers and other materials used during the 2014 Special Senatorial Elections. Ceremonies symbolic of the commencement of the burning of the used elections materials will take place at the Upper Montserrado County Elections Magisterial Office located in Bensonville, where used elections materials from Upper Montserrado County and the NEC Central warehouse will be burnt. Representatives of registered political parties, civil society and the media are expected to attend the ceremony which will mark the beginning of the burning of elections materials throughout the country. The destruction of ballot papers and other materials used during the 2014 Elections is intended to clear the Commission’s ware houses across the country and also provide space for the storage of materials for the 2017 Elections.
