 Chairman Korkoya Updates US Embassy Delegation on Preparations for 2017 Elections September 20th, 2016

The Chairman of the National Elections Commission (NEC), Cllr. Jerome George Koroya, has disclosed plans by the Commission to increase the number of polling centers in the country for the 2017 General Elections.

Chairman Korkoya said the increase would create easy access to polling stations by voters who usually walk long distances to cast their ballots during elections.

Chairman Korkoya said the number of polling centers would be increased from its current size to more than six thousand in 2017.

Chairman Korkoya has also disclosed plans by the Commission to undertake massive Civic/Voter Education activities using varied outreach platforms in the country to elicit massive public participation during the 2017 Elections.

Chairman Korkoya made the disclosure Monday when a four-member delegation from the US Embassy headed by Deputy Chief of Mission, Samuel R. Watson III, paid a courtesy call on the Commission.

The US Embassy Delegation inquired about the level of preparation being made  by the NEC for the conduct of  free and fair elections in 2017 including funding, Civic /Voter Education, logistics, among others.
