Nec Announces Provisional Results Of 2014 Special Senatorial Election December 24th, 2014

The National Elections Commission (NEC) on Wednesday announced the second in a string of provisional results of the December 20, 2014 Special Senatorial Election.

The announcement ceremony took place at the headquarters of the Commission in Monrovia.

Chairman Korkoya reported that of the 4,701 polling places in the country, 4290 polling places have reported, with 445,218 votes already counted and tallied. He noted that the recorded voter turnout for polling places reporting amounts to 25.8% percent.

The NEC Boss stated that all counties, except Bomi and Montserrado, have completed their tally process and reported 100 per cent.

This is the second in a series of Provisional Results of the Saturday, December 20, 2014 Special Senatorial Election released by the Commission.

It can be recalled that the Commission released the first Provisional Results of the Election on Monday, December 22, 2014.

During that ceremony, Chairman korkoya reported that as part of the transparent nature of the electoral process, immediately following the close of the polls, the reconciliation, sorting and counting of votes commenced at all polling places across the country.

Following the counting process, Chairman Korkoya said, the original copy of the election result from each polling place was placed in a Tamper Evident Envelope and taken to the magisterial tally center in each of the fifteen counties for processing.

He further disclosed that a second copy was sealed and placed in the ballot box while the third and fourth Copies were distributed to representatives of the first and second winners at each polling center. The fifth copy, he said, was then placed on the wall at the center for public viewing.

Chairman Korkoya then reminded political parties and candidates that complaints regarding polling/counting or tallying irregularities should be filed with the NEC Magisterial Offices across the country.

Further results of the 2014 Special senatorial election will be announced after Christmas.

Full details of the provisional results are available on the website of the National Elections Commission ( Senate Results).
