NEC Rotates Elections Magistrates for Special Senatorial Election July 31st, 2014

The National Elections Commission (NEC) has taken a decision to rotate its 19 Elections Magistrates from their current areas of assignment to other Magisterial Areas to enable them supervise the October 14, 2014 Special Senatorial Election.

The decision was taken Tuesday by the Board of Commissioners of the NEC in Monrovia.

The rotation of Elections Magistrates is part of efforts by the Commission to ensure transparency and build confidence in the upcoming Special Senatorial Election.

The Elections Magistrates are required to conduct the Special Senatorial Election in the new areas in which they have been temporarily assigned.

Elections Magistrates are among elections officers appointed by the Commission in line with Section 2.22 of the New Elections Law of 1986.

They perform duties that include Voter Registration, holding of elections and making determination in all elections offenses in which the penalty is not more than $500.00.

The NEC says the decision affects all 19 Elections Magistrates assigned across Liberia as follow:
