NEC-IFES Conduct Two-Day Lessons Learnt Forum On VRU Exercise April 8th, 2014

The National Elections Commission (NEC), through its Civic and Voter Education Section has successfully concluded the conduct of a two-day Lessons Learnt Forum on the just ended Voter Roll Update Exercise.

The forum was held on April 4 and 5 in Buchanan City, Grand Bassa County.

19 Assistant Elections Magistrates from across the country participated in the Lessons Learnt Forum held at the St. Peter Clever Catholic High School, under the theme, “Enhancing the Quality of CVE Service Delivery”.

The International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES) with financial support from the United States Agency for International Development or USAID provided support to the Lessons Learnt Forum.

In his opening remaking at the ceremony, the Deputy Executive-Director for Programs of the Commission, Attorney Nathan P. Garbie , said Lessons Learnt Forums are now being used as reliant tools for top level decision makers at the Commission.

Attorney Garbie said Lessons Learnt Forums can also help managements at well-organized private and public institutions to evaluate the performance of specific programs, assessing the challenges and successes during their implementation.

Atty Garbie intimated that Lessons Learnt Forums must be based on “truth telling” that will inform top level managers at the NEC to take the right decisions on surmounting challenges and making improvements in the implementation of programs and projects.

For his part, the National Program Manager of the International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES), Senesee Freeman, indicated that IFES was glad to provide support to the NEC to conduct such a conference intended to examine the performance of Civic Educators for the Voter Roll Update Exercise in Liberia.

Mr. Freeman said as the NEC prepares for the conduct of the remaining key electoral activities, including the Exhibition, replacement of lost or damaged voter cards and the October 14 Special Senatorial Election, it was necessary for the Commission and Partners to take a retrospective look at past activities like the just ended VRU Exercise.

The two-day Lessons Learnt Forum comes against the backdrop of the evaluation of Electoral Supervisors and Civic Educators hired by the Commission and IFES to conduct Civic Education and other activities for the conduct of the Voter Roll Update Exercise.

The evaluation of these personnel was conducted by Assistant Elections Magistrates at various locations across the country.
