NEC Creates Awareness on Start of Exhibition of Provisional Voter Roll April 28th, 2014

The National Elections Commission (NEC) on Monday conducted a massive campaign to create awareness on the start of the Exhibition of the Provisional Voter Roll of the country.

The campaign was conducted throughout the principal streets of Monrovia and Paynesville Cities.

The Campaign was headed by Hon. Samuel Joe, Commissioner with acting oversight responsibility of Civic Voter Education (CVE) with assistance from the Director of CVE, Josiah Joekai.

Commissioner Joe said the exercise is geared towards sensitizing the public about the Exhibition exercise in order to encourage them turn out during the next five days to clean the voter roll of Liberia.

The NEC Commissioner encouraged all Liberians to participate in the Exhibition Exercise.

More than one hundred employees of the Commission participated in the exercise which was conducted on Broad Street, Capitol Hill, Freeport, Battery Factory, New Georgia Junction, Chicken Soup Factory, 72nd Junction, Old Road Public Market and other locations across the cities.

During the campaign, personnel of the Commission distributed posters, fliers, and vehicle bumper stickers to members of the public.

The Exhibition Exercise which started today, April 28, will end on Friday, May 2.

More than three thousand personnel vetted and trained by the Commission are conducting the exhibition exercise at the 1780 Voter Registration centers across the country.

The Exhibition of the Provisional Voter Roll is in consonance with Sub-Chapter C, Section 3.11 of the New Elections Law of 1986 and the Key Dates of the 2014 Special Senatorial Election released by the Commission last year.

During the Exhibition period, the entire Voter Roll will be displayed at the 1780 Voter Registration Centers across the country to enable citizens, including new registrants, to make Claims and Objections where necessary as well as make corrections to their personal data.

Claims and objections to a name on the Voter Roll may include objection to the registration of a person either because the registrant is a non-Liberian Citizen or had not attained the age of 18 years and above.
