 Voter Roll Update Exercise Begins Across Liberia January 30th, 2014
The National Elections Commission (NEC) has begun the conduct of a Voter Roll Update Exercise across the country.

The Commission began the process Wednesday at seven Voter Registration Centers in four counties in Liberia.

The counties include Bong, Gbarpolu, Grand Bassa and Grand Kru.
According to a schedule released by the Commission, the seven centers were originally scheduled to be served on January 29 prior to the postponement of the start of the Voter Roll Update Exercise which was initially planned to run from January 13 to March 5, 2014.

The Commission says Centers that should have been served from January 13 to January 28, 2014 will now be served on later dates due to the postponement.

The nation-wide Voter Roll Update Exercise is intended to include an estimated 400, 000 persons on the current Voter Roll of Liberia.
The 2014 Voter Roll Update Exercise runs from January 29 to March 21, 2014.

The Exercise seeks to include on the Voter Roll eligible Liberians in the following categories:

1. People who had attained the age of 18 years and above since the         Voter Registration Exercise of 2011;

2. Individuals who did not register during the Voter Registration             Exercise of 2011 for one reason or another ; and

3. Registered Voters who have relocated since the Voter                       Registration Exercise of 2011 and wish to be captured under New         Voter Registration Centers.

In a statement on the eve of the start of the exercise, Chairman Jerome Korkoya encouraged all Liberians who fall within the three categories to turn out en masse in order to be included on the Voter Roll of Liberia.

The NEC Boss reminded Liberians that attaining a Voter Registration Card is a prerequisite for participation in the October 14, 2014 Special Senatorial Election.

The nation-wide Voter Roll Update Exercise will be conducted by 200 Mobile Teams that would traverse the 1780 Voter Registration Centers across the country.

Each team would spend three days at a Voter Registration Center.

The exercise which is a requirement of Article 77(b) of the Liberian Constitution will be conducted over a period of 45 days.
