 Joint NEC-Legislative Delegation Returns from Study Tour, Elections Observation Mission in Rwanda September 24th, 2013

A joint delegation from the National Elections Commission and the Liberian Legislature has returned to the country following a two-week study tour and election observation mission to the East African State of Rwanda.

The delegation comprises the Chairman of the House Committee on Elections and Inauguration, Representative Gabriel Smith and Montserrado County Representatives Edward Ford and Richmond Anderson.


The Chairman of the Senate Committee on Public and Autonomous Agencies, Bong County Senator, Jewel Howard Taylor, was also part of the delegation.


11 persons from the National Elections Commission (NEC) including Co-Chairman Sarah Jegede-Toe and Commissioners Davidetta Browne-Lansanah, Asumana Kromah were also part of the delegation.


Other Members of the Delegation include the Directors of Training, Civic/Voter Education, Field Operations, The Elections Magistrates of River Gee and Nimba Counties, a Communications Officer and the Assistant Elections Magistrate of Lower Bong County.


While in Kigali, The delegation was accredited as Special Observers of the Parliamentary Elections of Rwanda in the Southern and Eastern Provinces of that East African Country.


The delegation visited the National Identification Registry of Rwanda to assess the relationship between National Identification Cards and the inclusion of Voters on the Voter Roll of a country.

 

Other areas visited by the delegation include the Gender Monitoring Organization, the National women’s Center, the Genocide Memorial as well as the Rwanda Parliament, among others.


The Study tour to Rwanda was part of the NEC’s ongoing capacity building initiatives of the Commission in line with the six-year Strategic Plan of the National Elections Commission.


The Electoral Assistance Division of the United Nations Development Program funded the joint delegation’s visit to Rwanda.
