 NEC Boss Kicks Off Visit To NEC Magisterial Areas May 17th, 2013


The Chairman of National Elections Commission (NEC) Cllr. Jerome Korkoya kicks off a nationwide tour Saturday, May 18, 2013 to appraise the activities and status of the 19 NEC magisterial offices spread across the country. 

Phase one of  Chairman’s nationwide familiarization tour will start with a trip to Margibi, Bong, Nimba, Grand Gedeh, Sinoe, River Gee and Maryland counties respectively.

While on the tour, Cllr. Korkoya will be introduced to the NEC staff in the counties and have a first-hand impression of the day to day operations of the magisterial offices.

The tour is the first by Cllr. Korkoya since his assumption of the chairmanship of the commission.  

Chairman Korkoya is being accompanied on the tour by Acting Deputy Executive Director for Operation, Laimin Lighe and Public Information Officer, Nathan N. Nulbah.

Since his preferment as Chairman of the NEC, Cllr. Korkoya has been understudying the workings of the various departments and sections of the commission.

Immediately following the confirmation and subsequent commissioning of the new NEC Board, they commenced active engagement with the way and manner in which the commission functions.

Their first major litmus test was to take charge of the Grand Bassa County Senatorial By-election which was occasioned by the demised of Senator John Whitfield.

The By-election was conducted in keeping with international practice and is being touted as one that was free, fair and transparent.

For the purpose of effectively managing election in Liberia, the NEC created 19 magisterial offices spread across the 15 political sub-division of the country.
