 Polling Begins in Grand Bassa County Senatorial By-Election May 7th, 2013

Polling has begun in the Grand Bassa County Senatorial By-Election.

The polls opened at 8:00 this morning at the 336 polling places spread across the 176 voting precincts in the County.

There are 124,280 registered voters in the county.

There have been no incident of violence since the start of the polls and the weather is quite good.

Four candidates representing three political parties and an independent are contesting the senatorial By-Election seat.

The candidates include:

1.    Jonathan Kaipay of the Unity Party

2.    Nyonblee Karnga-Lawrence of the Liberty Party

3.    T. Wah Bedell of the National Patriotic Party and;

4.    Daniel Lymus Chea, an Independent

The election is being held to replace Senator John Francis Whitfield who died on January 17, 2013.

Tallying, announcement of provisional and final results of the By-Election as well as certification of the winning candidate of the By-Election will be done in Buchanan City in line with the Decentralization Policy of the National Elections Commission (NEC).

Provisional results of the By-Election will be released on Wednesday evening while the announcement final result and certification of the winning candidate will be done on Friday, May 10, 2013.
