 European Union Pledges Continuous Support to Electoral Activities in Liberia April 10th, 2013

The Head of the European Union Delegation to Liberia, Ambassador Attilio Pacifici, says the EU remains committed to supporting the 2014 and 2017 Elections in Liberia.

He said this support is contained in the five to seven year EU support program to Liberia.

Ambassador Pacifici said the NEC is a traditional partner of the Union and the need to further tighten this relationship cannot be over emphasized.

The Head of the EU Delegation urged the newly reconstituted Board of Commissioners of the National Elections Commission to continuously work towards ensuring that public confidence and trust is reposed in the work of the Commission.

He said public confidence in the Commission would enhance democracy and make the country much more prosperous.

Ambassador pacifici spoke Wednesday when Chairman Jerome George Korkoya and members of the reconstituted Board of Commissioners of the National Elections Commission paid a courtesy visit to the Mamba Point Office of  the European Union in Monrovia.

Chairman Korkoya, during the visit, commended the EU for its numerous support to the Commission.

He said the Commission would require more support from the commission in its strive to enhance democracy in the country through the conduct of free, fair and transparent elections.

The European Union through the UNDP has been providing logistical and technical support to the NEC for the past three years.

On Wednesday, the Board of Commissioners of the NEC also paid a courtesy call on the Resident Representative of African Union, Harrison Oluwatoyin Solaja in Monrovia.

During the visit, Mr. Solaja pledged the commitment of the African Union to support programs and projects that would enhance democracy in the country.
