 US Ambassador Malac visits New NEC Boss April 9th, 2013

United States Ambasssador, Debora Malac, says the United States Government will continuously support the National Elections Commission in the process of conducting free, fair and transparent elections in Liberia.

Ambassador Malac said support to the Commission is very important because the NEC plays have a key in the sustenance of democracy in Liberia.

The US Diplomat noted that the Commission has over the years proven to be very credible through the conduct of elections that have been acclaimed both locally and internationally as being credible.

She said the United States government is committed to supporting the commission in all aspects of its work, including the ongoing reform process of the electoral law.

Ambassador Malac said her government’s support to the NEC is in consonance with the US Government’s desire to building institutions and systems in the country that would endure at the exit of governments.

The United States Ambassador made the disclosure Tuesday when she led a three-member delegation to pay a courtesy call on the reconstituted Board of Commissioners of the National Elections Commission.

Speaking earlier, the Chairman of the NEC, Jerome George Korkoya lauded the United States Government for its continuous commitment to process of democracy building in the country that have been manifested through the numerous support it continues to provide to the Commission.

Chairman Korkoya noted that as an elections management body, the National Elections Commission will work within its power to ensure continuous credibility in all electoral activities in the country.

Other members of the US Government’s delegation to the NEC included the Political Counselor at the US Embassy, Chris de Angelis and Democracy and Governance Team leader, Kaya Adams.
