NEC CHAIRMAN WARNS April 15th, 2013

(Monday, April 15, 2013); The Chairman of the National Elections Commission (NEC), Jerome Korkoya, says he will work vigorously towards ensuring that transparency and accountability remain the fundamental basis upon which the commission fulfills its statutory responsibility of conducting free, fair and transparent elections for all elective public offices in the country.

Chairman Korkoya said this very important goal is achievable if every employee of the commission were to put aside loyalty to individuals and become accountable only to the Commission and the Liberian people.

Chairman Korkoya disclosed that politicians and partisan attitudes would not be tolerated at the commission because such allegiance has the tendency to undermine the achievement of the fundamental goals of the entity.

He warned that the Commission will not hesitate to take punitive actions against employees who get themselves involved in acts that are inimical to achieving the goals and objectives of the NEC.

He disclosed that competence and commitment to duty will be the basis for promotion and the provision of incentives to employees and not nepotism, favoritism, tribalism or other forms of negativisms.

The NEC Boss made the statement Monday at a meeting with Deputy Executive Directors, Directors and heads of sections at the institution.
