 NEC Chair Korkoya, Commissioners Visit Grand Bassa Ahead of By-Elections Fever: By Joey T. Kennedy April 7th, 2013

Elections Commission visited Buchanan City, Grand Bassa County to acquaint themselves with the status of the May 7 Senatorial By-Election in the County.

Addressing Elections Magistrates, Assistant Magistrates, Zonal Heads and other personnel associated with the Electoral Process in the county, Chairman Korkoya lauded the Grand Bassa County By-Election team for their tireless efforts being exerted towards ensuring the success of the Senatorial By-Election.

He called on them to remain steadfast in their quest to conduct a free, fair, transparent and credible election in Grand Bassa County.

Briefing the Chairman and Commissioners on the status of the By-Election, the Senior Elections Magistrate of Grand Bassa County, David Logan, said more than nine thousand registered voters in the county have had their damaged or lost Voter Registration Cards replaced since the start of the Replacement Exercise of Damaged or lost Voter ID Cards.

He said the five electoral districts of the county were divided into six zones for operational and coordination purposes for the smooth conduct of the By Election.

Magistrate Logan disclosed that up to the end of the period for the Nomination of Candidates, only four aspirants Including Nyonblee Karnga Lawrence of the Liberty Party, T. Wah Bedell of the National Patriotic Party, Jonathan Lambort Kaipay of the Unity Party and Daniel Lymus Chea, an Independent, had submitted nomination papers to the NEC.

Meanwhile the NEC Hearing Officer, Atty. Muana Ville, has begun hearing into complaints of double registration and non-residency allegation levied against Madam Nyonblee Karnga-Lawrenceg in Buchanan, Grand Bassa County.

Findings of the hearing are expected to be submitted to the commission before the publishing of the final list of qualified candidates for the By Election and the start of campaigning on Friday, April 12.
