NEC Chairman ends Week-Long Assessment Tour March 14th, 2011
Identifies Logistics as Major Challenge Facing Elections This Year
The Chairman of the National Elections Commission, Hon. James M. Fromayan, has ended a weeklong assessment visit to eight Counties. Chairman Fromayan’s tour took him to Grand Bassa, Rivercess, Sinoe, River Gee, Grand Gedeh, Nimba, Bong and Margibi Counties. The NEC Chairman was in the region from February 20-27, 2011 to assess the level of work done on the ongoing construction of election warehouses throughout the nineteen election magisterial areas of the country.
Chairman Fromayan who recently performed the symbolic dedication of the warehouses in Bensonville, Montserrado County expressed satisfaction over the progress made so far with the construction but noted that more still needed to be done to complete them before the electoral process reaches its peak this year. According to Chairman Fromayan, the Commission could no longer rely on containers to store sensitive electoral materials, citing security concerns. The NEC Chairman said the warehouses, when completed, would boost storage capacity in the counties and facilitate the movement of electoral materials at the most critical point of the process
