NEC DELEGATION LEAVES FOR AN ELECTION OBSERVATION MISSION TO GHANA

PRESS RELEASE

(04-December-2012); A Fourteen-Member Elections Observation Mission from the National Elections Commission ( NEC) has left the country for Accra, Ghana, to observe that country’s General Elections slated for December 6.

The NEC Elections Observation Mission to Ghana, which is headed by Commissioner Al-hadji Ansumanah Kromah, will be in that country for a period of Eight days.

A release from the National Elections Commission says, two of the delegates are being sponsored by the Government of Liberia while The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) is sponsoring additional two persons.

The International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES) with funding from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) is sponsoring ten of the delegates.

According to the NEC, the Elections Observation Mission to the West African State principally consists of Assistant Elections Magistrates drawn from thirteen of the 19 Elections Magisterial areas of Liberia.

The NEC Mission to Ghana is also expected to assess best practices associated with conducting elections in Ghana, which is acclaimed as one of Africa’s stable democracies.

The mission to that country is in fulfillment of the NECs quest to build the capacity of its staff in several spheres of the electoral process as espoused by the six-year   Strategic Plan of the National Elections Commission.
