 NEC Chairman Mandates Clerk of Writs to conduct By-Election in District 1 Lofa County on Feb. 28, 2017 December 30th, 2016

The National Elections Commission, NEC through its Chairman has issued an Election Writ to the Magistrate of Lower Lofa County Electoral District#1 for the conduct of the By-Election slated for the 28th of February 2017.

Chairman Korkoya in his mandate to the Lower Lofa County Election Magistrate said, the conduct of the By-Election is to fill the vacancy in the House of Representatives caused by the death of the Representative Eugene Fallah Kparkar.

The mandate from NEC Boss instructed the Election Magistrate of Lofa County to conduct the Representative By-Election on the 28th day of February, A.D. 2017, between the hours of 8:00 0’ Clock Ante Meridian to 6:00 0’ Clock Post Meridian. 

Article 37 of the Liberian Constitution states that, in the event of a vacancy in the Legislature caused by death, resignation, expulsion or otherwise, the presiding officer shall within 30 days notify the Elections Commission, who shall not later than 90 days cause a By-Election to be held.

The Election Writ was officially issued during a colorful program at the Headquarters of the Commission presided by its Chairman, Cllr. Korkoya.

In keeping with legal procedures, the Acting Clerk of Election Writ Emmanuel Kerkula then issued the Election Writ to the Election Magistrate of Lower Lofa County, Robert Selle to conduct the By-Election in district#1.
