(NEC/Monrovia/July 15, 2012) About ten senior staff from various departments of the National Elections Commission (NEC) of Liberia left the country over the weekend to undertake a two-week comprehensive study tour of the electoral commission of the Republic of South Africa.
The study tour which is expected to run from July 16 to the 27 is part of the NEC continuous capacity building activities of its core electoral staff.
According to a release issued by NEC, while in Pretoria, South Africa, the delegation will share knowledge on best practices in electoral democracy and elections management.
The delegation which is being headed by NEC’s Executive Director John K. Langley, comprises heads of key sections including Administration, Political Liaison, Civic and Voters Education, Public Information and Outreach, Training and Procedures, Logistics, Gender and Procurement, among others.
In a related development, about 25 NEC staff are also undergoing three-day training in Elections Administration at the Golden Key Hotel in Paynesville outside Monrovia.
The 25 beneficiaries of the training include Assistant Magistrates and other strategic staff of the Commission.
The training which runs from July 16 to 19 is a modular training component of the Building Resources in Democracy, Governance and Elections (BRIDGE) framework.
Staff capacity building and civic/voter’s education are key focal areas of the NEC during post electoral periods, the NEC release said.
