NEC to Host Night-long Vigil on US Election

The National Elections Commission (NEC), with support from the International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES), will on Tuesday, November 6, 2012 hold a Night- long Vigil on the United States 2012 Presidential Elections.

The vigil will be held in the Conference Hall of the NEC in Sinkor, Monrovia.

The vigil is intended to give actors in the Liberian political arrangement the opportunity to observe at firsthand the democratic nature of the American electoral and democratic system.

Participants at the Virgil will include political parties, civil society organizations, youth groups, the media, women groups and leaders of University based student political parties.

Other guests invited to the Vigil are the Liberia National Students Union, IFES and the NEC, among others.

Two moderators, including Prof. Alaric Tokpa of the University of Liberia, will give brief lectures on the transparency and openness of the American Electoral System as well as the American Electoral College system and popular votes.
