STATEMENT BY THE CHAIRMAN OF NATIONAL ELECTIONS COMMISSION (NEC)

HON. JAMES M. FROMAYAN
FOR THE ANNOUNCEMENT OF THE PROGRESSIVE RESULTS OF THE OCTOBER 11, 2011 LEGISLATIVE AND PRESIDENTIAL ELECTIONS

SUNDAY, OCTOBER 16, 2011 @5PM

Fellow Citizens, Ladies and Gentlemen of the Press:

·       INTRODUCTION
It is another pleasing duty for me on behalf of the Board of Commissioners of the National Elections Commission (NEC) to release the latest results of the Legislative and Presidential Elections conducted on October 11, 2011. It is important to note that significant progress has been made with respect to the number of centers that have reported nationwide since our last press conference.

·       PROGRESSIVE RESULTS FROM TALLYING
The National Elections Commission is glad to release the fourth batch of progressive results from the 2011 Presidential and Legislative Elections. We wish to report that results have been received from 4,311 polling places nationwide. The voters’ turnout for polling places which have reported so far stands at 71.4%. The reported polling places account for 96.7% of the 4,457 polling places in the country. Total valid votes stand at 1,162,729. Invalid votes account for 80,504 or 6.5%. Total votes stand at 1, 243, 233.

The Commission will now proceed with the announcement of the latest results for the Presidential and Vice Presidential Elections based on the number of polling places reported thus far.

The Commission will as of this point announce results for parties or candidates that have received 5% or more of the valid votes counted in the Presidential and Vice Presidential category. Today’s results are as follows:

Yet still, in the similar manner, and in the interest of time, the Commission will announce the results for the first three candidates in the lead for the Senate Elections and the first two at the top in the House of Representatives Elections.
